Liberté Méditerranée Yogurt - Best Ever!
My new favourite thing is Liberté Méditerranée yogurt. This is a bigger deal than you might think, as I have kind of a love/hate relationship with yogurt and it has to be exactly what I'm looking for or I won't touch it.
Since leaving England (and the perfection that is Yeo Valley Organic Wholemilk yogurt), I have settled for Astro Original Balkan Style yogurt mixed with my own fresh fruit. While the Astro yogurt is delicious and has it's uses, it is a bit sour even with the fruit. I've spent years (not an exaggeration) trying to find exactly what I'm looking for, so I have pretty much purchased every brand on the market and nothing had the consistency, texture, and taste I wanted.
When I saw this at Sobey's a couple of weeks ago, I decided to give it a try. Don't be put off by the fat content (8% M.F.) - this is serious, stand-a-spoon-in-it yogurt. It has an amazingly smooth creaminess that I can't get enough of, and there are 12 flavours to choose from. To prevent myself from eating bowlfuls of the stuff, I have mostly been using it as a topper/garnish; really, it's almost a dessert - tonight I had some as a treat instead of ice cream. Delicious!

Yogurt and fruit. A daily for me if there ever was one. I don't venture into the balkan styles that much, but occasionally I pick up a container of Kefir at Planet Organic. Nice to see some love for the grapefruit.
ReplyDeleteI've been using it as a substitute for Fage. The black cherry one is fantastic too! I wish there was a version with lower milk fat, but I guess it would affect the texture.
ReplyDeleteOh, yes, this yogurt is incredible! My favourite is the lemon flavour. I justify the high fat by having it for dessert instead of ice cream (hey, whatever works...)
ReplyDeleteOh wow, I have never tried Liberte, but continually see it at Safeway. Definitely will keep this in mind and try it!
ReplyDeleteOh my god, I LOVE this yogourt. I discovered it a couple of years ago when I was living on PEI. In fact, I haven't bought it since because I have the tendency to wolf down the entire carton far too quickly. My absolute favourite flavour is Lemon too. It is like lemon meringue pie filling, only better.
ReplyDeleteI just had my first Liberte,I chose coconut. I had never seen that flavor in yogurt.Damn... it was great! oh my ....I LOVE Liberte! Full fat yogurt rules!
ReplyDeletei just bought some vanilla from loblaws, did sobeys have all the flavours?
ReplyDeleteIt's just so damn delicious. I've only tried the French Vanilla thus far; personally I love the high milk fat content. It's exactly what a growing boy needs!
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely the best yogurt I have ever tasted. So far I have tried the Lemon & Black Cherry. I jusst wish I could find all 13 flavours.
ReplyDeleteWhole Foods has all the flavours...They're all great but, I have to agree, the Lemon is amazing.
ReplyDeleteThis is the best yogurt ever. The Apple Crumble is amazing and the Coconut makes the best Pina Colada Smoothies. They are hardly low fat but are worth every calorie
ReplyDeleteI LOVE THIS YOGURT! I too was an Astro Balkan girl until I discovered Liberté Méditerranée! It is so delicious, I love how it has no yogurt "tang". My fave is plain old vanilla which is weird because I hate vanilla yogurt in all other brands. But I still do enjoy my fruit-bottomed Balkan Astro. I'm having a cup of the blueberry flavour right now...
ReplyDeleteMy sister & i discovered this Yogurt in Florida best we had ever tasted, love the Plum & Fig but they are all very good.Hope i can find it locally.
ReplyDeleteLiberte pro-biotic no fat yogurt - opened the yogurt to find it moldy before expiry date 5 times in the last 8 months. When it's good it's good but this is too much. I'm done with Liberte. Finally complained to the Canadian food Inspection Agency when it happened again today.
ReplyDeleteThe only reason Liberte Mediterranee is so creamy and delicious is because of the fat content. I spent days trying to look for yogurt above 2% fat until I found Liberte. Why is it so hard to find dairy below 2% when regular pop and sugary foodstuff are in every aisle?
ReplyDeleteWho wants Ice Cream! Not me...I'm having Liberte Mediterranee Lemon Yogurt! Yum!!!
ReplyDeleteAs good as ice cream.,.. I just tried this for the first time yesterday and I'm still in amazement, had to google this today to see if I'm the only one who is head over heels for this.. .the strawberry and blackberries are both drool worthy, wow
ReplyDeleteSimply the best yogourt ever! Love the plain variety topped with homemade fruit compote. I am a happy camper!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is peach and passion fruit. I just bought a couple to see if I would like them at first because some days i like yogurt and some days I hate it, but I am head over heels for this kind. It reminds me of cream cheese in a way because its so thick and creamy. yum.
ReplyDeleteI practically live on the LEMON flavour Liberte Greek yogurt. I LOVE it. It is so rich and creamy. They recently changed the fat content from 14% to 12% so that is a little better lol. But it is worth every calorie and fat gram...yum, yum, yum. I find it hard to get here in Windsor. Sobey's doesn't carry it. Zehrs does but in small quantities...I have to go on a yogurt hunt once a week....but it is worth it....highly recommend it....UNLESS you live in Windsor. If you live in Windsor the LEMON is terrible - try any other flavour...lol
ReplyDeleteDid you know it is a product introduced in Quebec....YAY Quebec!
ReplyDeleteDoes anybody know why they have changed Liberte yogurt?? In Florida they have changed the packaging AND most importantly the formula - I am crushed.the new formula is no where near as good. I ate this yogurt every night and it was my only sweet treat.
ReplyDeleteAgreed the new formula is bad -- I noticed the change a few weeks after the new packaging came out. Lemon was my favorite -- WHAT HAPPENED?
ReplyDeleteGeneral Mills bought the USA rights to the name and now basically sells Yoplait in the Liberte container. It COMPLETELY SUCKS!!!! Do not by the GM version of Liberte. Check the label, if it says USA on the label anywhere, STAY AWAY!!!!!
ReplyDeleteApparently Liberte is still the real deal in Canada.
"General Mills bought the USA rights to the name and now basically sells Yoplait in the Liberte container."
ReplyDeleteNo, the crap they now sell under the Liberte name is actually worse than Yoplait.
I've from a persian background so i know my yogurt. Today i had my first taste of Liberte plain 2% yogurt. Holy shit... what a disgusting texture! it's like toothpaste. truly revolting. And I live in Canada. Yuck
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love the thick texture of this yogurt. I tried it recently at Costco and bought a pack of 15. Its only been less than a week and they are almost gone!
ReplyDeleteIf you have a costco in your area, that's where you will find the boxes of 15 - 5 Flavors. Great price and great size. I won't buy anything else and like others have said, it's like dessert!!!
